Selected and translated by Robert Corteen Carswell, Manannan's Cloak brings together a range of texts in the Gaelic language of the Isle of Man from the earliest writings to the present day, along with their English translations. The texts in Manx are linked by a narrative which places them in the context of Manx history, and includes observations about the language and the peole who used it by a number of officilas and vistors to the |sland.

Mackay Hugh Baillie Scott was a prominant architect at the turn of the twentieth century.and he and his wife lived on the Isle of Man between 1889 and 1901. He met Archibald Knox, the famous Liberty & Co designer, while attending the Isle of Man School of Art in Douglas.

He only designed twelve buildings and a smattering of interiors on the Isle of Man in those twelve years, indicating that the local population was less than supportive of his style. In his time on the Isle of Man, most of his commissions were overseas and these were the most innovative of his career.

In this book, photographer Ian Macdonald-Smith has captured more than forty of the most characteristically innovative and extant houses designed by Baillie-Scott, six of which are located in the Isle of Man and include Onchan Village Hall and Castletown Police Station.

W T Quirk wrote the Gaffer’s Tales in the 1960s and 1970s. Through the eyes of the Gaffer, an old man spinning yarns as he works in the back of a grocer’s shop in Douglas, he recorded familiar features of life on the Isle of Man with great affection and humour. The book also includes a CD with the poetry of W T Quirk.
